Naval Base Ventura County, California

Military Mission

Naval Base (NB) Ventura County is located in western Ventura County, California, along the Pacific Ocean with geographically separated facilities at Port Hueneme, Point Mugu, San Nicolas Island, and the 36,000 square mile Sea Test Range. The county’s largest employer with an estimated annual economic impact exceeding $1.7 billion, NB Ventura County employs more than 15,000 civilians, active duty and Reserve military, and contractor personnel.

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Georgia

Military Mission

Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay is located in Camden County, adjacent to the City of St. Marys, a semi-rural area in southeastern Georgia, 40 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. Kings Bay is the U.S. Atlantic Fleet's home port for U.S. Navy's Fleet ballistic missile submarines armed with Trident missile nuclear weapons. This submarine base contains approximately 16,000 acres of land, of which 4,000 acres are protected wetlands.

Naval Support Activity Panama City, Florida

Military Mission

Naval Support Activity Panama City (NSA Panama City) is located in what was once a predominantly rural area that has experienced substantial growth over the past 64 years. The base comprises 1,117 acres (652 acres are Department of Defense owned) and is located in an unincorporated portion of Bay County, opposite Panama City, across St. Andrews Bay. The installation is a support activity hosting 18 tenant commands including the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City, the Center for Explosive Ordnance and Diving Excellence, the Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, and the Navy Experimental Dive Unit.

Military Mission

The North Carolina State Legislature mandated the establishment of the Advisory Commission on Military Affairs to advise the Governor on how to strengthen the state's relationship with the military. The Commission advises the Governor on ways to reduce and prevent urban encroachment around the five primary military bases in the state to include: Fort Bragg, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Marine Corps Air Stations Cherry Point, New River, and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. The Commission focuses on state legislative, administrative, and programmatic initiatives with the following key responsibilities.

Randolph Air Force Base, Texas

Military Mission

Randolph Air Force Base (AFB) is located in Bexar County, Texas and provides training to military personnel by the 12th Training Wing. The installation is comprised of 9,859 acres and is surrounded by the nearby or adjacent municipalities of San Antonio, Universal City, Converse, Selma and Live Oak. The installation is experiencing incompatible urbanization along and adjacent to Loop 1604, San Antonio's outer beltway, due to commercial and residential development bordering the base to the west. Some residential and commercial development already exists in Accident Potential Zones (APZ) I and II, and continued development could have a negative impact on flight mission profiles.

Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas

Military Mission

Sheppard Air Force Base (AFB) is comprised of 5,297 total acres (4,598 Department of Defense owned) located five miles northeast of Wichita Falls, Texas, within Wichita County. The installation's primary missions are the thirteen nation Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program and Department of Defense’s joint service enlisted technical training in logistics, civil engineering, and aircraft maintenance. The base is the largest and most diversified training center in the Air Force’s Air Education and Training Command, host to the 82nd Training Wing and 80th Flying Training Wing, which in 2010 graduated a combined 80,304 trainees and flew 66,000 sorties. Because of the heavy volume of flight training at Sheppard AFB, the installation has a long-term lease for an outlying public airport field and facilities, approximately 40 miles north of the base in Frederick, Oklahoma.
