As communities and military bases grow, cooperative land use planning ensures that the needs of the community and base are not negatively impacted by future development. Working collaboratively with both the military installation and local community, OEA is able to identify current and potential problems. After completing a joint land use study like the communities below, OEA works with the community to help implement the recommendations.

Lemoore Naval Air Station, California
Military Mission
Naval Air Station (NAS) Lemoore, one of only two Master Jet Bases in the United States, is located in Kings and Fresno Counties and near the City of Lemoore. NAS Lemoore encompasses 29,823 acres and is home to 18 F/A-18 squadrons, including two Fleet Replacement Squadrons, and the Center for Naval Aviation Training and Technical Unit (CNATTU) Lemoore. The base conducts approximately 210,000 flight operations per year, or more than 575 operations per day on average. An ongoing Environmental Impact Statement process considers NAS Lemoore as one of two possible locations for the West Coast Home Port of the F-35/Joint Strike Fighter (JSF).

Malmstrom Air Force Base, Montana
Military Mission
Malmstrom AFB is located in northwest Montana on the east side of Great Falls in Cascade County and comprises a total of 28,606 acres, including the missile complex - DoD owns 3,900 acres, 24,201 acres are added through private landowner easements, 489 acres are public domain, and 16 acres are leased. The 341st Space Wing, headquartered at Malmstrom AFB, supports the installation's missile defense missions. The Malmstrom Missile Complex, which is a 13,800 square mile area crossing 7 counties, contains 150 Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile sites called Launch Facilities and 15 Missile Alert Facilities. There is no longer an active airfield at Malmstrom AFB.

March Air Reserve Base, California

March Air Reserve Base (ARB) is located in Riverside County, approximately 45-60 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, and encompasses 2,075 acres. March ARB serves the 452nd Air Mobility Wing and the 163rd Air Refueling Wing to provide military airlift and air refueling capabilities. Several other government organizations operate flying missions from the base. The airfield is a joint use airfield that accommodates both military and commercial operations, and will likely accommodate general aviation in the future.

Marine Corp Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina

Throughout its more than 60-year history, the 5,800 acres that comprise Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort have played a key role in the national defense by hosting training exercises and operations that ensure our military's readiness to meet every challenge. Offshore airspace and advanced technology provide excellent ranges for air-to-air training. Today, the 3.9 million square yards of runways and taxiways are home to nine Marine Corps and Navy squadrons of F/A-18 Hornet advanced fighter-attack aircraft. The MCAS Beaufort hosts more than 12,000 military members, dependents, and civilian employees.

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point is a 13,164 acre military installation located north of the town of Havelock in southeastern Craven County, North Carolina. It houses approximately 8,400 Marines and Sailors and about 5,700 civilian personnel. MCAS Cherry Point currently provides support facilities and services for the Second Marine Aircraft Wing, the Naval Aviation Depot, Combat Service Support Detachment 21 of the Second Force Service Support Group, the Naval Air Maintenance Training Group Detachment, and the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Office. MCAS Cherry Point maintains facilities for training and support of the Atlantic Fleet Marine Force aviation units, and is designated as a primary aviation supply point.

Marine Corps Base (MCB) Quantico is located 35 miles south of Washington, D.C. along the I-95 corridor, and surrounds the town of Quantico, Virginia. The MCB Quantico complex consists of 60,314 acres of land, 55,148 of which are Department of Defense-owned. This land falls across three Virginia counties: Stafford County (55% of acreage), Prince William County (40% of acreage), and Fauquier County (5% acreage). The Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration occupy 500 acres under long-term real estate use agreements.

Massachusetts Military Reservation, Massachusetts
Military Mission
The Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) is a 22,000 acre reservation located in Cape Cod, Massachusetts within Barnstable County, and bordered by the cities of Bourne, Falmouth, Sandwich, and Mashpee. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts owns (fee simple) 19,900 acres of the Reservation and the U.S. Air Force owns 1,100 acres. The MMR is divided into two general land uses: 14,575 acres in the north of the Reservation comprise a training area, and 5,900 acres in the south of the Reservation constitute the main cantonment area, which contains the command buildings and infrastructure.

Moody Air Force Base, Georgia
Military Mission
Moody Air Force Base (AFB) is located in South Georgia approximately fifteen miles north of Valdosta, and is home to the Air Force's 23rd Wing. The 23rd Wing consists of seven groups and is tasked to organize, train, and employ combat-ready security forces, pararescue-jumpers (PJs), A/OA-10, HH-60, and HC-130 forces totaling 6,100 military and civilian personnel. The Wing executes worldwide close air support, force protection, and combat search and rescue operations in support of humanitarian interests, national security, and the global war on terrorism.
