OEA's Compatible Use program, through a Joint Land Use Study (JLUS), encourages cooperative land use planning between military installations and the surrounding communities. The goal of the Compatible Use program is to assist communities in partnering with local installations to develop recommendations that may guide local jurisdictions in the development and implementation of land use and development controls. These recommendations foster compatibility with the training and operational missions of the military installations, airfields, and ranges. OEA works collaboratively with each of the Military Departments to identify existing or potential future incompatible development, as well as affected local jurisdictions, through technical and financial assistance to achieve compatible land use and development activities. For further information, see Joint Land Use Study Program Guidance Manual and Joint Land Use Study Program Description or the Practical Guide to Compatible Civilian Development Near Military Installations.
