On July 9, 2015, the Army announced its Force Structure and Stationing Decisions. This decision will affect up to 40,000 uniformed service members, nearly 17,000 Army civilian employees, their families, and the states and communities that support them. If an Army installation is selected for force realignment or reduction, impacted areas may qualify for assistance from OEA. For more information, please contact David Kennedy, OEA Project Manager, at 703-697-2136 or david.r.kennedy.civ@mail.mil

Working to better serve the needs of areas affected by major defense program changes like base realignment and closure (BRAC), OEA has created a YouTube Channel to share video resources, including customer stories in five- to six-minute video segments, like our new one about Riverbank, California and its post-BRAC redevelopment. Use these videos as a first-hand look at how OEA works with grantees and how communities have utilized OEA’s technical assistance and resources in similar situations.

Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) is a reality for some communities that host defense installations. Life after BRAC can be a revitalized one. Even for Riverbank, California, still re-emerging, re-thinking and re-using since the 2005 BRAC, the story of success shines through. Where planning and redevelopment came together, Riverbank’s residents found a new way of life, economic development and reimagined uses for the defense installation facilities once so integral to the community.
